My CrossFit journey started for a simple reason: to get healthy. I had several close friends who would not stop talking about it, so I finally gave in and gave it a try. All these years later, we’re all still doing CrossFit, which tells you everything you need to know about the impact it can have.
For me, that impact was life-changing. In November 2013, my wife, Shanna, and I opened our own affiliate, CrossFit Kodiak Island, right out of our garage in Kodiak, Alaska. The community grew so fast that we moved into a commercial building just three months later. Over the next decade, we continued to grow, eventually rebranding as Buoy 4 Fitness in a new location. After more than ten years of building that amazing community, we recently sold the gym to begin our next chapter here in Montana.
While I believe the CrossFit methodology is challenging, rewarding, and simply gets results, it’s the community you build and the friends you make that truly make it special. That’s what I love most about coaching: opening people's eyes and helping them see that they can accomplish anything they set their minds to. Celebrating milestones, PRs, and crushed goals right alongside the athletes is incredibly rewarding.
Outside of the gym, my family is my joy. I love spending time with my wife, Shanna, and our two adult sons. I’m an avid golfer and try to hit the links as often as possible, and I love exploring the mountains on hikes or on my mountain bike. In a past life, I spent ten years racing ATVs professionally in the deserts of Mexico and the Southwest, which was an incredible, all-consuming chapter of my life!
